When you got your Soundblaster up, you can pipe the output of i4btel through 
alaw2ulaw to /dev/audio (this is what isdntel does).

Or use isdntelctl to switch the i4btel device you are using permanently from
ALaw to uLaw to use /dev/audio directly.
