I've never seen this but I'm normally very careful when attaching GDB.  I
always wait until after the target has stopped before trying to attach.  I
also use a macro so I never have to mistype the speed:

	define ak
		#set remotechat 1
		set remotebaud 57600
		target remote /dev/cuaa1
	end
