Does it do this all of the time? I've got the same controller (2842)
with an Archive 2150S SCSI-I tape drive, and sometimes the first
attempt to write to the drive after a boot fails in the above manner.
At the same time I also see a console message that says:

st0: bad request, must be between 0 and 0

Immediately retrying the failed command usually works just fine.
