On the #linux channel (I don't use linux, but did visit the channel), I remember peoples asking a tons of easy-to-find questions. In my experience, IRC is mostly used by lazzy-I-want-it-right-now peoples. So better answer when you use the freebsd-questions mailing list and so much better when you find it yourself.
