Sorry for the LONG delay ... details below:

I'd prefer to have a port which actually builds the sources using
the installed JDK, so I have a chance of fixing any bugs that I
 come across.

I've spent several days scattered over the last year trying to
come up with a port which does build the driver. I've got a
version for 2.0.8 which builds all the non-J2EE JDBC2 classes,
but I've never been able to get the JDBC1 classes built.

I've had various versions of this working since around February,
but I keep getting bogged down trying to get the JDBC1 drivers
 built.

Would people rather have a port which just installs the pre-built
jar file, or can they live with a JDBC2-only port which is built
 from the sources?

Also, should I leave the 1.2c port around and have this one added
as mysql-jdbc-mm2? The 2.0 line was supposed to end in June
after version 2.0.5, but I haven't seen any sign of either a 2.1
 or a 3.0 release.

Alternatively, the current driver could move to mysql-jdbc-mm1
and the new one could live on as mysql-jdbc-mm.
