I think you'll find that FreeBSD is mostly used as a server OS for the 
rendering of such scenes, not the actual artistic process of creating 
them. Although I believe there is 3D software available for Linux (and 
hence runnable under FreeBSD) I think many companies probably stick to 
Windows or possibly Irix to create there scenes in.
