Yes, I talked about this with Marius (the maintainer) too. According to Marius every other distribution doesn't split the cdrtools. So the merge not only meets the expectations of a lot of users (and reduces the support requests to Marius), it makes us also consistent with other OS incarnations, so people which switch their OS (or use multiple of them) don't get confused.
