|Does it do this all of the time?  I've got the same controller (2842)
|with an Archive 2150S SCSI-I tape drive, and sometimes the first 
|attempt to write to the drive after a boot fails in the above manner.
|At the same time I also see a console message that says:

|st0: bad request, must be between 0 and 0
|
|Immediately retrying the failed command usually works just fine.

I get the same single error, but then retrying leads to the
hang I described in my email.  The initial writing messages
look fine.  But I'm using the ncr, hmm.  Maybe it's not the
controller?
