But X-List-ID won't get picked up by the user agent when (if) it
constructs an In-Reply-To field so it wouldn't really help in
thread construction. If anything is done by majordomo, adding a
genuine Message-ID would be the most useful.  (Of course, only
add it if it doesn't already exist!)

This is a problem, but (a) there isn't anything we can really do
about it and (b) based on my analysis of headers, such mailers
are responsible for a pretty small portion the messages.  Pine
and Elm alone account for over half the messages posted to
questions.

Thread retrieval will never be exact so long as humans are
generating the discourse anyway.  :)
