The DPT web page is a good place to start. http://www.dpt.com/uraiddoc.html
will explain what is meant by RAID 0, 1, etc. 

This page claims to have a FreeBSD driver for DPT RAID controllers. The
driver in question will be ready "Real Soon Now" (tm).
