hi, thought i'd add more details to the brew. i've given dangerously dedicated disks a try (yes, i realize they're dangerous, that's in the name), and something early on (boot0?) reports "Read error". My only guess here is that the second stage has fallen off the end of the constaints of CHS addressing, but I'm really not sure.
