I deleted lua51* in /usr/local/bin and deinstalled that port and the four or so ports which depended on it. Then, the workaround completed, and then, the original "pkg upgrade" script ( script) completed. 1200 remain (400 upgradeable, 800 ABI change approximately...) which I've completed in the past in a similar situation.
