Hello again,

Here is my mgetty.conf:

port cuaa0
debug 4
fax-id #our fax
speed 38400
direct NO
blocking NO
port-owner uucp
port-group uucp
port-mode 0660
toggle-dtr YES
toggle-dtr-waittime 500
data-only NO
fax-only NO
modem-type auto
init-chat "" ATS0=3D0Q0&D3&C1 OK
modem-check-time 3600
rings 1
answer-chat "" ATA CONNECT \c=20
answer-chat-timeout 80
autobauding NO
ringback NO
ringback-time 30
toggle-dtr YES
toggle-dtr-waittime 500
data-only NO
fax-only NO
modem-type auto
init-chat "" ATS0=3D0Q0&D3&C1 OK
modem-check-time 3600
rings 1
answer-chat "" ATA CONNECT \c=20
answer-chat-timeout 80
autobauding NO
ringback NO
ringback-time 30
ignore-carrier false
issue-file /etc/issue
prompt-waittime 500
login-prompt @!login:=20
login-time 240
diskspace 1024
notify faxadmin
fax-owner uucp
fax-group mode

and here is ppp.conf:
efault:
# disable lqr
 set debug phase lcp chat
 set timeout 0
 enable msext
 set ns #our name servers

cuaa0:=20
 enable passwdauth
 set ifaddr=20
 enable proxy

papttyd0:
 enable pap
 set ifaddr=20
 enable proxy
 enable passwdauth

papttyd1:
 enable pap
 set ifaddr #our range
 enable proxy
 enable passwdauth

papcuaa0:
 enable pap
 enable passwdauth
 set ifaddr #our range
 enable proxy

papcuaa1:
 enable pap
 enable passwdauth
 set ifaddr #our range
 enable proxy=20

We only are using 1 modem, through ppp, and when we do that, it seems to
be using cuaa1. So i'm not sure why the cuaa0 log file is being generated.

Again, thanks for any help. I wish I could be more specific but I'm not
sure what's going on.
