yea, and it very well could be working okay now. I suspect a precious
poster was correct in the processes not staying alive long enough for
top to account for them properly.

I think there have been problems like this on certain motherboards
and it's something to do with timers and clock interrupts. Has top
ever worked OK on this machine?
