The manufacturers are particularly reticent to make their code available, at least because of regulatory concerns: if you have the source, you can convert the device to operate outside the allowed frequency range. The FreeBSD core team has recently approved import of binary modules for the low-level control of these devices, but the import itself hasn't happened yet.
