I am not sure if this helps but here is my case:

I had the same problem with FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE+ and FreeBSD 8-RELEASE =
running under vmware server 2.0 with Virtual Hardware Version 7.
I was seeing 15min waiting period on boot.=20

I added a serial port in vmware and then disabled it in FreeBSD. This =
fixed the problem some what but sometimes after rebuilding the kernel to =
latest -STABLE I see long delays not always though.
