Check here:

If your modem implements the "Communication Device Class", it 
will work with freebsd.

If it is supported after plug it on the bus, you will be able
to use it as a serial modem. From umodem(4):

   "The device is accessed through the ucom(4) driver which makes it behave
     like a tty(4)."
