Subject: Can't get terminal to wake-up getty

I'm trying to hook up a Link MC2 (using tvi925 compatibility mode)
video terminal directly to COM1 of my FreeBSD system. Is this
possible or does it require some other piece of hardware?

I've compiled in support for sio0 in the kernel and have the
following line in the /etc/ttys:

   # Serial terminals
   ttyd0	"/usr/libexec/getty std.9600"	tvi925	on secure

After booting, 'stty -f /dev/ttyd0 -a' says this (cchars stuff deleted
for brevity):

speed 9600 baud; 0 rows; 0 columns;
lflags: -icanon -isig -iexten -echo -echoe -echok -echoke -echonl
-echoctl -echoprt -altwerase -noflsh -tostop -flusho -pendin
	-nokerninfo -extproc
iflags: -istrip -icrnl -inlcr -igncr -ixon -ixoff -ixany -imaxbel -ignbrk
	-brkint -inpck -ignpar -parmrk
oflags: -opost -onlcr -oxtabs
cflags: cread cs8 -parenb -parodd hupcl -clocal -cstopb crtscts -dsrflow
	-dtrflow -mdmbuf

However, I can't get a login prompt on the terminal. I've tried
hitting various keys on the terminal, and holding down keys while I
turned the terminal on (something that worked with the old terms I
used back in school) to wake up getty and give me the prompt.

I figure it probably has something to do with incorrect term
configuration, but nothing I've tried has helped. These are the
options for the terminal:

Baud Rate = 9600 (goes up to 19200)
Data/Parity = 8/None
Stop Bits = 1
Rcv Handshake = XON/XOFF (also supports DTR/Both/None)
Xmt Handshake = XON/XOFF (only other option is NONE)
Comm = FDX (also supports BLK/HDX/HBLK - control local echo/etc)

The above are the system defaults for the terminal. Does somebody
who has done this have any pointers for getting this terminal to
tickle getty enough to get a prompt? Thanks!

Cheers,
