I might agree if it was a RAID array.  But with ccd, no way.  Your
reliability just won't be there.

As far as the management thing goes, I agree, but then, I have never really
had a problem breaking things up into 

!*,alt.binaries.*
!*,alt.*,!alt.binaries.*
*,!alt.*

I've actually found it easier to administer, but that's just my opinion.

I still optimize transactions nicely across the disks.  :-)
