None.  Kermit can be used to prove that the problem is with the 
serial port rather than with ppp.  If kermit works, ppp should, if 
kermit doesn't, ppp won't.  People find that easier to accept than 
believing that ppp is not to blame for dodgy or misconfigured 
hardware.
