I tend to agree.  Going from 2.x to 3.x is a small burden for the end user
as a stepping stone to get to 4.x compared to the nightmares that we will
have in order to make 2.x -> 4.0-current work.

I personally think that 4.0's 'make world' should be only required to work
from systems no older than (say) 3.0-elf, and even that's generous -
3.0-RELEASE is quite old by today's standards.
