Hi.  I'd strongly suggest checking out qmail.  The author's page is at

    http://pobox.com/~djb/qmail.html

The author includes some success stories about qmail's monster message
load capabilities.  I've personally had a really pleasant qmail
experience (fast, small, easy to compile, configure, etc.).
