I think that others are going to cover the technical aspects of this discussion, so I'm going to limit myself to one slightly disappointing observation. During the proceedings, it became very clear that only a small number of attendees have taken the time to perform any substantial research on the topic. None of the ideas being discussed are new; they've all been looked at many, many years ago. If we're going to maintain our reputation for careful implementation of time-tested ideas and techniques, we need to avail ourselves of the work of others, and that means hunting down and reading the large volume of research output on the topic. I know that Terry has a reading list, and I'm sure that others do as well.
