This is a clean install of FreeBSD 5.0 on Friday of last week and
today is the first chance to actually install anything from the
ports collection. The ports directories were updated via cvsup
about 1 hour before this problem.

Why gnome-config is mentioned is a complete mystery to me.
The machine will never run the Gnome desktop. I suspect
the recent upgrade to Gnome 2.0.3 is the cause of the
problem.

It up to date.

No PKG_* variables are set.
