looks really great.
how about an implicity AUTOEXTRACT that can be disabled by USE_ZIP,
USE_BZIP2 and NO_AUTOEXTRACT?

it would be worth a try on 4-exp (when bento is idle again) if this
breaks too much. would effectively be a no-op for most ports and a save
at least one line...
