After using system_tools_backends_enable="YES" and dbus_enable="YES", the
dbus-daemon --system and system-tools-backends are both running.
(they may have been running with gnome_enable="YES", I changed it before
I checked.)

While the screen and cd/dvd creator react the same, the messages are now:
Initializing gnome-mount extension

waiting for X server to shut down FreeFontPath: FPE
