Well, the comment was based on practical experience, not
theoretical posturing, so ya, I'm sure, DAMMIT!  ;-)

I very rarely use the clean target.  The fact that it recurses to
dependencies has simply bitten me too many times.

Perhaps not everyone can be expected to dislike that, however.  :)
