I am assuming Flash memory here... Is the Flash chip a DIP? If so,
you should be able to get a special ribbon cable to connect it to
your device programmer. With the unit powered off, you should be able
to reprogram the Flash with a new image.

A typical ribbon cable like this has an IDC connector with DIP pins
on one end, and a clamp-like connector on the chip side. I have
not seen one recently, but this is something you would use to connect
a logic analyzer to a chip on your circuit under test.

As a "last resort" method, you could get two 32-pin wire-wrap sockets
and some ribbon cable, and wire the pins between them. You would
have to be sure the pins made good contact with the Flash device.
Maybe a few rubber bands high on the wire-wrap socket would keep
enough tension on the leads.

I have never programmed devices over an extended ribbon cable, but
I don't think that would be a problem. Flash memories program
themselves and you just keep polling them until each byte is done.

Hope this helps!
