Hi,

I wanted to install FreeBSD (2.1.0) on my laptop (I'm going to replace
Linux, hope you enjoy..). Since I have no network adapter I installed
FreeBSD on a PC with network (also removed Linux ...) to use the PLIP
interface for installation on my laptop.

After having some trouble with my SMC adapter, I finally managed to
install FreeBSD on the first partiton of the second harddisk.

**** Unfortunately I cannot find a way to install the bootmanager when
**** FreeBSD is installed on the second disk

For now I'm booting from DOS..

Now my real problems:

The documentation for the PLIP installation is too short for
me...

**** So far I think I have to choose NFS installation. But what
**** addresses I have to use for Nameservers, Routes, my own IP and so
**** on ?? What have to be done on the other computer (the one which
**** has already installed FreeBSD)? How can I setup a PLIP 'server'?
**** Is this PLIP server only a gateway to the NFS servers on the
**** internet or is itself the NFS server for the PLIP interface?

A little hint would be great ...

Here some smaller problems that I encountered during installation on
computer with network adapter (not necessary to answer or comment, I
have already solved them for me)

/sand/sysinstall does not run when I have installed a kernel with pcvt
compatible console driver
(Why do the ALT- sequences in emacs not work with the sc0 driver?)

How can I make a set of 'emergency' or normal boot discs?

The xemacs package misses a X-library (something like xpm????-package)
The path to the site-lisp directory was corrupted (contained some
components like '.../share:/...' or so)

Thanks allot,
Frank.
