Seems that Amanda is trying to open the tape while it's not yet ready
(e. g. rewinding).  The tape rejects the operation, and the driver
doesn't wait until it's ready either.

IMHO you can modify the behaviour with the little DIP switches, but i
don't have any docs about them (at least that's been the case for the
HP parts).
