After default booting a Dell PowerEdge 400SC machine with FreeBSD 5.2RC, on the next boot you're warned that the BIOS is now in "OS install mode" - which reduces the amount of memory available to the OS. You have to go into the CMOS setup and turn that install mode off to get your full amount of memory. This will keep happening even though you save your CMOS changes.
If you choose to start FreeBSD with ACPI disabled, then the OS install mode stays off.

Boot FreeBSD with acpi enabled (the default) and then reboot. You'll get a warning right after the bios memory test and before the bootloader kicks in.
