I could not determine clearly from https://wiki.freebsd.org/powerpc/POWER9 whether FreeBSD works today as a server or desktop operating system for this hardware. It seems clear that OpenPOWER, with its entirely open architecture & firmware, including OpenBMC, is the way forward. I was wondering if this is a perception shared by the FreeBSD developers? Is there interest and/or focused effort in bringing OpenPOWER all the way up to Tier-1 status? IMO this has been the most exciting hardware development in recent years, and a great leap forward towards truly free computing.
