GENERIC can run in 16 MB provided you have sufficient swap space.
Don't expect a speed demon.  A custom kernel can run in 12 MB, but it
will start swapping the minute you log in (even with all services
except syslogd and cron disabled and the number of active vtys reduced
to four).
