Does that have an ESS chip in it, like an ESS 1868?  Did you put

device          sbc0
device          pcm0

in your kernel config file?  Also, make sure you've done a make world
recently, and did a mergemaster in single user maode.  Remake your
audio device with ./MAKEDEV snd0.
