They're basically the same thing with different labels on them.

Diamond are indeed actively cooperating with the XFree people.

800x600 on a 17"?  You're mad!  I run a #9 771 with 4M on a 17sf at 1280x1024
and 16bpp.

Anyway, either would be fine; my personal preference is the #9 card, but
whichever is cheaper will do you fine.
