Yes, but not full improvement and getting there.. The vte (gnome-terminal 
depends on vte) is getting better and better at the every new version. The 
vte team (or just an author?) work(s) pretty hard on vte, they are doing the 
great job so far.

In the Gnome 2.3.0 (vte 0.11.4), the most noticeable of improvement is using 
lesser CPU, little speed up, lesser lag when copy and paste, and etc even 
thought it's compiled with debug (-g).
