Subject:   rc.conf file corrupt

Why is it that once and a while my rc.conf file gets corrupted when I do a
shutdown -r now?
The machine boots up with Amnesiac, then all I have to do is copy a backup
rc.conf and restart to make everything work the old way (normal).
But again, why does this file get corrupted once and a while?
