Going in a different direction: I set up 118 GiBytes of
swap (so: RAM+SWAP=3D150 GiBytes).

It made little difference, things apparently being
killed. (No OOM messages showed up.)

top ended up showing:

(I adjusted the number formatting used.)

So enabling SWAP space looks to not be a way to avoid the MRU/Wired
related issue.
