Is a tape inserted? If not, then there is no bug here. Insert a tape prior to
attempting to get status (unless you use the 'control' entry point, but that
will yield pointless information).

If so, build a kernel with CAMDEBUG enabled, boot that, and then do

camcontrol debug -Ic 0:4:0

and then do the 'mt status' and ship the output back to the list.
