A lot of money it is not even funny ;)

True, but on the other side of the house you got a number of seasoned what
so called Network Engineers with xx years of experience lack that solid
analytical systematic approach of problem solving as soon something deviates
from the standard routine come and see their clueless faces! you will see
lack of systematic approach of problem solving thereof. Analytical approach
to Problem solving comes from both education and experience, not from one or
the other only. In the contrary you got paper certificate people who can
create more harm then good after graduating from what is called Boot Camp
Certification they think they know it all! Don't get me wrong I'm not saying
that every Boot Camp Graduate is a paper certified this technique is useful
for the. experienced, but not otherwise in my opinion. So Certification is a
double edged knife depending how you use it but usually beneficial if
combined with experience.

Not Really doomed, a Cisco CCIE go through a rigorous hands on lab exams of
configuring the nastiest network you can ever encounter. You can't pass such
an exam in a boot camp because if you have not worked extensively with Cisco
Routers you will not pass the exam.period. Besides there are only about 5000
Cisco Certified in the whole entire world, so the market is in real need of
Certified technical staff. Red Hat RACE is one booming certificate that is
not that bad in my opinion because you still have to pass a lab and a
troubleshooting test. M$ needs to implement a Lab exam for it to be of any
value? FreeBSD Certification I hope I can see one in the future may be one
of these days it would be nice to have one solid hands on Lab exam or
something similar to the Red Had One. It is also a way of promoting and
helping the cause of the Awesome FreeBSD OS. It is not a money rip off, no
body slapped any one in the hands saying that you got to be certified. If
employers require it, then they are the one to blame and should pay for it.
Sorry for the long reply I just had to put my $1 share :-)
