You probably mean /usr/ports/misc/amanda24 I think.  /usr/ports/misc/
amanda is a fairly old code base.  The reason that both are in the ports
tree is that that misc/amanda is based on amanda-2.3.0, which is
incompatable with amanda-2.4.0.

We use it to back up a variety of FreeBSD/Linux/Solaris/IRIX machines to
a FreeBSD box with a Mammoth tape loader and I'm pretty happy with the
way it's been working...
