>Description:
If I create a tar archive containing big files (over 1GB) I get errors when I try to list its content with -t tar command, while extracting (-x) works fine.
Example:
gandalf# ll -h /archive/dumps/19
total 6075088
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1.6G Mar 19 05:09 foto.dump.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2.1G Mar 19 04:59 home.dump.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1.5G Mar 19 05:23 mysql.dump.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 44M Mar 19 04:50 root.dump.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 608M Mar 19 05:04 usr.dump.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 10M Mar 19 05:04 var.dump.gz
gandalf# tar -cvf /disk2/test/test.tar 19
a 19
a 19/root.dump.gz
a 19/home.dump.gz
a 19/usr.dump.gz
a 19/var.dump.gz
a 19/foto.dump.gz
a 19/mysql.dump.gz
gandalf# cd /disk2/test/
gandalf# tar -tvf test.tar
drwxr-xr-x 0 root wheel 0 Mar 19 05:09 19
-rw-r--r-- 0 root wheel 45711222 Mar 19 04:50 19/root.dump.gz
-rw-r--r-- 0 root wheel 2210089943 Mar 19 04:59 19/home.dump.gz
tar: (Empty error message)
gandalf# tar -xvf test.tar
x 19
x 19/root.dump.gz
x 19/home.dump.gz
....

Note: if I use as tar output device a tape driver (I own a DLT tape) I get a different error:
gandalf# tar tv
drwxr-xr-x 0 root wheel 0 Mar 28 04:49 archive/dumps
drwxr-xr-x 0 root wheel 0 Mar 28 04:51 archive/dumps/28
-rw-r--r-- 0 root wheel 340251 Mar 28 04:49 archive/dumps/28/root.dump.gz
tar: Unrecognized archive format: Inappropriate file type or format

And again I have no problems in untarring files with tar xv command.

>How-To-Repeat:
Create over 1GB files and tar them. Then try use tar tv to list their contents.

>Fix:
none
