Both issues above are (again, imo) irrelevant.  We have an almost
identical situation with libxml and libxml2, and a repo-copy + patches
is useful in preserving history.

Since I myself can't do the repo-copy, however, I'll leave the final
word to our esteemed Ports Wraith.
