I'm sorry to hear that...  :)  You knew you could use JFC with JDK
1.1.8, right?

Yes.  I've used the Linux JDK's (IBM's and Sun's) with no problem
under emulation.  There are also ports that contain the (rather
infant) attempts at getting native Java 2 support working.
