According to what would it be broken? Is there a POSIX spec for this, etc?

Kaffe runs on *lots* of architectures and operating systems.. if this
change means it stops working under FreeBSD then you're saying that
this coincidence must be true for all those other systems, which is
unlikely..

In any case, I don't understand this issue well enough but will
forward the concern to the kaffe mailing list..
