As far as I see it I find the Core-Team a relief to be an integral part of the
FreeBSD project. Linux has a larger support base, but I find the attitude of
the 'FreeBSD people' much more lenient than those of the Linux ones. 

Linux in itself isn't that bad, quite good it happened to the world actually,
although I hate the diversity of distributions, all with their own differences
and incompatibilities.

A real answer cannot be given though, as it is entirely a matter of preference.
I used Linux and got in touch with FreeBSD at work and loved the more clear
lay-out and switched completely to FreeBSD... Try them both and see which ye
like better...
