FWIW, you should be able to use your Winmodem from a UNIX if you
run UNIX under VMWare, or you run Windows under VMWare and directly
assign the resources, and route through Windows.

The easiest way to do this is to put the Windows at 192.168.0.1,
and enable "Internet Connection Sharing", with the FreeBSD on the
system running at 192.168.9.X (1 < X < 127).

Also FWIW, if you don't want to get reactions like this to
Linux advocacy, it's probably a good idea to not post Linux
Advocacy to a list beginning with "freebsd-".  I think the
same thing could be said for any OS-specific mailing list that
wasn't a Linux list.
