I was hoping that someone could clarify something that's been sorrowfully neglected in freeBSD docs that I've seen to date. Here's my situation: I've installed freeBSD on a Conner 1 gb SCSI drive and everything is fine except for I need more diskspace now. So I put in another Connor 1 gb drive just like it -- yet disklabel seems to require a disktab entry even though there is'nt one for the boot disk-- clearly freeBSD has'nt any problem sussing the geometry on that; freeBSD's fdisk understands the geometry on the drive. So why is disklabel unable to read the way it's sliced and label the type=165 slice without some mystical incantations (which I still have'nt figured out!)? If disklabel is going to be so demanding, why is the /etc/disktab that is distributed so limited? It seems like the popular Seagate, Connor, IBM, Quantum and Fujitsu drives ought to be in there. If I ever figure out what the disktab entry should be for my drive, how do I make it available to the freeBSD public so that others may benefit from my toil and grief? thanks! The next interface will not be another desktop metaphor....
