Uh, you don't have to buy it: it's *free*...

Maybe.  I use Linux WordPerfect, Netscape, and Wingz binaries all the
time.  Alegro Common Lisp from Franz, on the other hand, doesn't seem
to want to work.  YMMV.

CDRecord has been ported to FreeBSD-Current + CAM, and worked with my
CDR drive.  YMMV.

> 3. Does FreeBSD support scanners ?

I ported SANE to FreeBSD-Current + CAM.  It worked with my scanner.
Once again, YMMV.
