You're right.  I could have sworn that it didn't used to be that way (i.e.
auto-detect gnome-config then set HAVE_GNOME).  Looks like dia and
stuphead still check to see if WITH_GNOME is defined (except dia will
check for /usr/X11R6/bin/panel).  I guess I could remove this from the FAQ
if that's the concensus.
